Built in the 18th century, LA FORGE provided all items of a metal nature to the village of Payrac. Today, it is an ideal living space of high quality for a couple seeking modern comforts combined with traditional character. Original stonework is present both inside and out, and the exterior wrought iron balcony, literally a work of art, was made here. Completely renovated in 2007, the transformation from forge to dwelling is remarkable. The tastefully decorated kitchen, dining and living area downstairs, the cozy bedroom and bathroom with a large walk-in shower upstairs, will make your holiday stay a comfortable and memorable one.
The charming village of Payrac has a well-supplied supermarket, bakery, pharmacy, physician, post office, restaurants, historic hotel, swimming pool, tennis courts, gas station/garage, beauty shop, and a great tourist office, all within walking distance. During the summer months the farmers market is not to be missed! Centrally located in the Lot, most tourist venues are only a 30-40 minute drive in any direction. Local activities include abundant walking/nature trails, biking trails, canoeing/kayaking, horseback riding, pre-historic caves. |

Whatever your interests, the Dordogne Region will suit you. You’ll never run out of things to do. If pre-history doesn’t grab you perhaps the Hundred Years War will. The cliffs overhanging the rivers are lined with castles dating from the 10th to 12th century. Renaissance and later castles litter the hillsides, too. Canoeing and kayaking are popular sports, as well as, horseback riding, bicycling, hiking, walking, golf and tennis. One of the best activities is eating! It’s hard to find a bad meal. The Dordogne region has earned the honor of gastronomic capital of France. A car is virtually essential to appreciate the area, as so many of its charms are hidden down tiny lanes and forest roads. Two small towns Souillac (north) and Gourdon (south) are 10 km and 10 minutes from Payrac, and two larger towns, Brive La Gaillard and Cahors, are about 40 km away.
The train Paris-Toulouse stops at Souillac. A fast new highway A10 allows travel between Payrac and Paris. By car, it is a 5 to 6 hour drive. Regional airports at Brive, Toulouse, Bergerac and Bordeaux have daily connections to Paris and the UK.
